Leonor Fini at Olney Gleason Gallery nyc in April - These curtains are remarkably similar to my studio curtains

Studio as Muse

May 24, 2026 in Couture, Art, couture clients, Couture Studio, inspiration

I have lots of fabric in my studio that I have saved over the years as I’m sure any designer does. Pieces that are too beautiful to throw away.. This chintz was actually found by my husband in the trash of his studio building- a remnant from an upholstery shop.

There was not enough fabric to make a whole jacket, so I found a Japanese cotton print that matched well and didn’t compete with the main fabric.

My rule for adding and combining elements such as fabrics or even buttons is that at least 2 elements should relate and neither should distract or overpower the other. I had these buttons which matched very well, but gave the jacket too retro a look, so we went with the braided leather buttons.

There were some beautiful shows in NYC this Spring-

I’ve always loved Matisse and found inspiration in his colors and exotic clothing
