Mother of the Groom

Of course you want to look beautiful for your son’s wedding. I made 2 MOG dresses this summer for weddings in late August and October. For one of the weddings the bride requested that the guests all wear black. This was a bit daunting for my client, but because a bit of color was allowed , she loved this silk cloqué with fushia flowers that I had in my atelier. We had worked together before and the process was joyful and seamless.

She also wanted an optional cover-up. I wasn’t happy with the colors of silk organza available so I painted a piece of silk.

I wasn’t sure it would work until I happened upon these Cy Twombly paintings literally the next day!

After a bit of back and forth the client found this cut silk velvet with a Venetian feeling that she loved. I met her at a store I had not been familiar with, though it has existed on the lower east side since 1890!

They cater to a high end clientele which includes Michele Obama and Madame Frick for the recent reopening of the Frick museum. All their fabrics are imported from Italy and France.
